Meet George Jetson.
The future is now.
The Federal Aviation Administration has approved the first flying car in the world, which is 100 percent electric. The future will be environmentally friendly.
This isn’t so impossible if you consider that cars can be driven into water to become boats.
Alef Aeronautics, which produces the flying vehicle, called the “Model A”, has said that it received permission from the FAA for the testing of the car in the air and on open roads. Pre-orders are available for the car, but it is not yet on the market.
The FAA has awarded the car a Special Airworthiness Certificate.
The CEO Jim Dukhovny said to USA TODAY that “the historical significance of this can’t be overstated.” While there have been pioneers such as Terrafugia and Paul Moller and Henry Ford, it is the first vehicle that has permission to fly in the traditional sense of the word (parks, drives, functions and looks like a automobile). Alef was the first electric vehicle to be granted permission to fly. Last but not least is the ability to vertically take off, which is at the heart of most people’s concept of a “flying vehicle.
When it is released, the car will cost around $300,000. Pre-orders are available for $150, or $1500 for priority spots.
There is no word from George, Jane, his wife, his daughter Judy, or his son Elroy.
